The Beginning ...

Well this is the beginning.

To be honest, my Graphic Design tutor said as an assignment we have to create a blog and talk about Art and Design, to help express our ideas, learn new practices within design, observe other designers and so on. Generally to become more involved with the world of design, aswell as Graphic Design.

I'm not sure if I would have done a blog for my own reason but there's no harm in trying something new. Hopefully I can give something different, and explore how design is present in our life.

So I've just started University and everyone knows that the shops are the place to be with all the that student loan and the money from your previous job. Anyway me and my friend went into New Look and I came across this display which I found really interesting.

Let me tell you why. The obvious reason was that it was unusual because of the use of cut out denim put around each letter. I felt this was clever, seeing as one denim material was not used but a variety; this represents how, for instance, in just one item of clothing such as jeans there is a difference in colour, wether it's washed out, stained or ripped. As you can see in the picture different jeans are being displayed.

Other forms of displays normally have black text on a picture with models modelling specific clothes. To me this simple, but also boring it's not something that you would remember. I feel this is the intention of the designer, because generally when shopping you are concentrating more on finding clothes rather than observing the display around you. So it's a quick glance you give, so less effort is put into it. However the misconception is that quick glance that you can give to a design; can be something memorable. Something that makes you sit down at home and think, what was the design trying to communicate to me. In some cases do some research on it.

Other than that I didn't buy anything there. It's those times when you like what you see online but when go to the actually shop, all that you've seen is not there.
