Typograghy

Typograpghy was the second module, I thought ooooo, this is going to be interesting something completely out of my comfort zone. When I heard we will have to produce a font I was like "ooo yes " by hand "ahhh ok" based on real life sketch "ermm why and how please", ahhaa my mode changed. Not in a bad ahhh I'm going to fail I don't want to do this but an oh this is going to be challenging kind of way.

We where told different criteria which the sketch of the person in front of us had to be of, for instance only using straight line, geometric shapes, make the person look strong and even with your eyes closed. Obviously that came out a mess, I'm not going to lie I opened my eyes a few times aha. I choose the use of geometric shapes because I actually loved how I used shapes to created a person, because it's not natural but understandable. So we had to kind of set our self a brief saying what we can and can't do. So mind was basically that all lines must be straight and contents on the outside should use thicker lines

The old hater, research

Research is something I love doing now, however in A Level it was something I hated because we had to focus more on materials, what joints or mechanisms should be used to make something move how you want it, even though the whole point it to create something that doesn't exist, so the research comes to a dead end and your teacher doesn't want to help because he's lazy and is always asking for a lighter, because asking questions gives him stress, so he needs a cigarette. Yeah so I didn't like it before. But in University I loved especially how I was improving my previous weakness, not showing my thought process, made me appreciate it more. This is because the research helps pick which one of your ideas will work rather than you picking one idea and your getting frustrated because your research is saying "no this will not work" but your saying "you must I don't have time to change it because I spent so long thinking of it". So it makes life a lot easier.

So the research about typography, which I wrote in a previous post, the basic the construction of a letter, the y-axis and x-axis. This was helpful because as it taught me what makes a font more legible and readable. How to make it look like all the letters come from the same family, interesting stuff. So through that I could see which ideas worked and which didn't.

It was by forceeeeee that I showed my through process, which in the end this changed I present my coursework in my portfolio, improve by a whole grade compared to last time. I was sooooo happy and I really enjoyed that module because it was something new and scary, very out of my comfort zone. But if you know me, I loved putting my self outside my comfort zone because that's the only way you learn, become more open minded and gain new experiences.

Hmmm, thinking of writing writing about how this relates to life ....
