La Playa
I decided to go to the beach with one of my friends from Philadelphia, that I met at a language exchange. Again very confusing to get to, I need to get used to getting lost aha. Generally I'm not the best at navigation, so Barcelona is improving this skill for me seeing as when you get lost too often you start to recognise where you are. The beach is popular amongst tourist however it was really calm, people selling cocktails and patterned beach mats. It was a really nice atmosphere, I even got a massage done at the beach, very rare but common in Barcelona. Later I tried my first Spanish dish paella, however I didn't like it because I not used to their rice grains (more thick and round). I enjoyed practicing my Spanish at the restaurant, which is helping me improve my confidence because I would normally get to shy because my grammar isn't perfect. However I told myself to go for it and they will appreciate my effort, which they do. This is the new attitude I continue to add to my life, go for it even if you mess up and people laugh it's not going to kill you, dust yourself off, laugh at yourself too and move up.
Salsa, Salsa, Salsa
I previously went to a Salsa class that later turned into a club, lool I had no clue but I loved it, dancing to Bachata and Reggeaton. So when my friends took me to a bar with live music, to which they played salsa I was out there dancing. Something I would have never done before I came to Spain. I could only dance when people around me were dancing too, however Spain or should I say the Cuban culture is changing me. Cuban culture is heavily influenced by African culture, due to the enslaved Africans taken there. That's way the salsa beats are not new to me but the moves are, I picked it up really fast. I was happy when I was asked to dance by I few people, really felt apart of the culture. Then after I went to meet my housemates friends, I even met another girl from London. It was a good night. Improving my Spanish and social skills.
