hmm my style ...

I'm not going to lie I don't really know what my style is yet. And to be honest I don't think it's a bad thing because I'm kind of like a baby been born into the Graphic Design world; if I had been designing for years and didn't know what my sense of style is then I'll be worried. But I'm still learning and experimenting, so to say what my style is already I feel would be restricting because I wouldn't explore new ideas. I want to keep my mind open you know and not be like a person that thinks they know everything to which they are less likely to learn.

One thing I will say is ...

I remember one of my tutors talking about in terms of advertising sometimes doing the cliché thing makes it easier for the viewers to feel your message. At that moment I know I could't do that. I always, no matter what the brief or assignment is, is create something new and unique. Yes as we all do look at existing ideas and use it as inspiration but I make my designs my own. For instance for the Design in Context module we had to design a poster for a music festival based in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. This area in Mexico is known for it's Mayan heritage, which the 3 out of the 5 people in my group use the Mayan pyramid, calendar and patterns. On the other hand I looked at who the Mayans where, being astrologers I used illustrator to draw constellation also not just using readable fonts but ones such as Herculanum to reflect the Mayan theme (looks like letters craved in a cave).

This can also be seen in my previous work in Product Design where I brief was to simply make a mp3 player. While people made excellent ones out plastic, I was the only crazy one that said " hey c

an I make mine out of wood ?". So yeah I linked to the Native American and their love for nature;  engraving their patterns and making the contraction resemble a totem poole. Another good design was making my mp3 player look like a dream catcher. See that's what I am an innovator, I try to create strange new ideas.

themessss

Another thing that I realised I do is pay real attention to themes. Or that I just like having one ahha. This really came out when I did Graphic Design in GCSE and we had to make a board game. I chose to base mine on The Lion King. When I say everything, I made sure that everything related to the theme. I had African patterned question cards, instructions made out of leaves (not real ones). I even went to the extent of researching African fruits as they were the boxes you step on, where each fruit has an individual purpose such as to make you go back 2 spaces. I didn't need to do that but I just love creating a concept and bring context to my work; you know having a story behind it.

I don't know what my definitely style is yet but I'll figure it out some how.
