Work Placement: Gap Year
I want to go into a year long placement in 2017. I initially wanted to work for a year however Erasmus, a company that deals placement applications, advised that I study for 6 months then work for the other 6 months. This is due to being in a completely new country is better to study first so that you can settle in and get used to the environment rather than go straight in to work.
Where do I want to fly to ...
I want to really go to America preferably Atlanta, Georgia. My main reasons for wanted to go there is because in future I looking to live there; and I remember when I was talking to my older cousin who told be that if I ever want to live in a different country, it's better to work there for a few months first and see how you like it. Rather than moving completely because the environment you get when on holiday is different to you actually living and working there. That's why I am aiming my year placement in America; also due to the fact that I want to aim my design skills into the technology industry which majority of the world largest businesses or headquarters are located.
However if that is not possible due to Erasmus giving less funding to countries outside Europe; I am looking at Italy mainly because I can speak moderately and I want to become fluent aha. Also because I believe one of my strengths is adding contextual value to my designs it fits well with Italy having rich historical design culture. This is can be seen in their architecture, iconic painters and sculptures. So I believe it will be of benefit to me to be able to study and learn a different way and outlook to design.
In addition another benefit of international experience would be the fact that I can networking international in way that will be limited if I stayed in my comfort zone.
