Developing my skills

After doing research into the roles available for Graphic Designers in the technology industry, I realised that there are some skills that I do not have. Rather than say do not have I prefer to say need to develop because it's in me but have not being giving projects that showcase them. So after talking to my creative path ways module leader I was advised to look at websites such DNAC, star pack and Penguin seeing as the display competition briefs that i can look into. So with this I can take on briefs for instance branding, that will be more relevant to the industry that I want to go into. This does mean talking on extra work with the one that I have but as mentioned in my other post for me to stand out from the competition I have go and that extra mile. I also told myself to do start doing wider reading, to which I'm currently reading a book called Create impact with type, image and color by Carolyn Knight where I am learning the importance of image hierarchy, positionin...

Work Placement: Gap Year

I want to go into a year long placement in 2017. I initially wanted to work for a year however Erasmus, a company that deals placement applications, advised that I study for 6 months then work for the other 6 months. This is due to being in a completely new country is better to study first so that you can settle in and get used to the environment rather than go straight in to work. Where do I want to fly to ... I want to really go to America preferably Atlanta, Georgia. My main reasons for wanted to go there is because in future I looking to live there; and I remember when I was talking to my older cousin who told be that if I ever want to live in a different country, it's better to work there for a few months first and see how you like it. Rather than moving completely because the environment you get when on holiday is different to you actually living and working there. That's why I am aiming my year placement in America; also due to the fact that I want to aim my design ...

Work Placement: 3 months

It was mentioned this year that we have the opportunity to take on a placement from March to April. I was very happy about this not because I will not have to come in to University ahha, but because it's better to get has much experience as possible. Our careers advice emphasised this as she said the fact that we are University is the best time for this because employers are more willing to help you grow and allow you to make mistakes; compared to you being a graduate their expectation are higher. Also you will be in competition with people that have years of experience. Where do I want to head of to Originally I want to get out of this country and do all my work placements abroad, realistically that will be a lot of money. Also the fact that I have already paid rent for my house in Coventry for the year, I don't want the money to go to waste. So I have decided to go local and aim my research to companies with in Birmingham. Birmingham being the 2nd largest city after L...

New academic year

Image
First day feels them same like when you come back to school and see all your teachers and friends again. The only difference is that you go back home don't have your parents telling you "Summer has ended so you need to stop sleeping late now" Being in the lecture room I felt nervous because this year counts towards your grades so you can't mess it up. But I was positive in knowing that I will implement all the feedback from last year into this years projects. Creative Pathways   Last year this module just consisted of a blog, however this year I was really excited for it because it's was focusing on what we want to do with our futures. Helping us build that bridges for us, something I truly I am grateful for because when your young your asked "What do you want to do in the future ?" is a daunting question; even if you know the answer. I feel like the difficult thing isn't actually knowing what you want to do but actually knowing the steps to g...
